In this post, I will be discussing this pattern in the Pixar movie Brave.

They will reach the threshold once again, and return with new experiences, new knowledge, and will utilize these newfound abilities in their society.Įvery modern story contains aspects of this hero pattern in some way or another. The hero will then encounter an abyss, where there will be a death of their past selves and the reemergence of a new hero. After this transformation, the hero will continue on, their journey slowly but surely coming to its end. After crossing this border, the protagonist will acquire helpers, a mentor, and use them along their journey. Eventually, they will reach a threshold, the dividing line between the comfort zone and the world they know. The hero experiences a call to adventure, and takes off into the unknown. The hero, no matter what kind, undergoes what is known as the hero pattern. From the epic heroes to the modern ones, the concept of heroes has evolved. Each story told contains the archetypal hero.
